The first settlers began at the DuPage River and made their stake of prairie land in the 1830s in the thick of the City of Chicago developing its character as the city of broad shoulders. A midnight raid of Civil War veterans from Wheaton and Danby changed the county seat from Naperville and Wheaton in order to obtain county records in 1867.
