What is the History of Kane County, IL?

The government was established on January 16th, 1836 within LaFox (now Geneva) as the Kane County seat within James Herrington's Tavern and Inn being it had the only post office in the county. The county was named after Elias Kent Kane, a highly-respected attorney who helped draft the Illinois constitution and was the first Secretary of State. His political lead him to be elected to Congress and later the Senate until his death in 1835.  Settlement along the Fox River lead to a substantial population increase with Mills and Factories as the main drivers in needing labor through the industrial revolution.
In addition, Aurora became a major railroad center boosting exports of fresh dairy products into Chicago during the turn of the 20th century further boosting its reliability as a logistical hub.  In 1967 the United States built Fermilab, a center for energy research and development just outside of Batavia.  To this day this facility is a means of educational and cultural opportunity globally for residents of the Greater Chicagoland area to benefit from.

West Kane County: Agriculture continues to be a main source of output as farmers continue to reap harvests from the rich soil. Additional supplies of mining work in quarries supply sand, gravel, and limestone for various industries throughout Kane County.  In the western half of Kane, Co. you will be further from the action with more room to roam with acreage and agricultural zoning to appreciate a more rural lifestyle.  After a long day of work and play, you can enjoy bonfires with your closest friends and family with a great view of the stars. Hunting is also prevalent throughout Kane County and there are Motocross Parks in neighboring counties in case you feel that need for speed.
