What is the History of Lake County IL?

The settlement of Lake County, IL dates back to Jean Nicolet, a French explorer, traveled down the Fox River by canoe through Wisconsin from Quebec to the far reaches of the basin of the St. Lawrence river in the 1630s.
Between Father Marquette's Missions and the battles for the frontier between the French and British, there was a lot at stake leading up to the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 as Illinois remained under British claim.  Native Tribes made either peace or declared war with the invaders disrupting their way of life.   Their spirit lives on in Lake County given various names of townships, parks and appreciation of nature with preservation through the Lake County Forest Preserves. Sprawling out from Waukegan and Libertyville, the introduction of Great Lakes Military Installation in addition to the rebuilding of Chicago after the Great Fire of 1871  impacted Lake County's development.  This created a sprawling agricultural and access to both properties designed for seasonal cottage living to escape the city life in addition to four-season permanent residences.
